Laimayum Dhanachandra Sharma passes away

Laimayum Dhanachandra Shanna, a well-known Manipuri screenwriter, and lyricist died yesterday owing to illness.

The Cine Writers and Playwrights Forum Manipur (CWPFM) organised a condolence gathering today at its headquarters in Uripok Bachaspati Leikai to mourn the sad and untimely death of Laimayum Dhanachandra Sharma.

According to a news statement from CWPFM, members held a two-minute silence to pay respect to the departed soul.

Late Laimayum Dhanachandra Sharma was a founding member of CWPFM and made significant contributions as a Manipuri film narrative, dialogue, and screenwriter from the days of celluloid film.

Among his notable works as a screenwriter are ‘Kana ga Hinghouni,’ ‘Aroiba Natte,’ ‘Amambasu Anganbani,’ ‘Engen gi Atiya,’ ‘Meitei Chanu,’ and ‘Kaorage.’

CWPFM stated that his death would leave an irreparable vacuum in the Manipuri film industry and expressed sympathy for the bereaved family.

The Film Forum Manipur also expressed its condolences on the death of Laimayum Dhanachandra Sharma.
