Former Miss Universe Sushmita Sen has called Manipur her “second home,” praising the state’s culture and traditions.
Sushmita told reporters at the Imphal Hotel in Imphal on Wednesday that nurturing Manipur’s gifted individuals, whether in sports or culture, will bring more worldwide fame and recognition.
During the media engagement, Sushmita, who wore a ‘Phanek’ and a ‘Rani Phi’, commended the state’s traditional wear. She stated that she would continue to visit Manipur in the future, promising her commitment to promoting Manipur in the field of design throughout the world.
She also praised fashion designer Robert Naorem for his significant involvement in promoting indigenous handloom items from the state. This includes those manufactured on traditional looms and the wonderful handicrafts crafted by artists all over the world.
The previous pageant winner also stated that fashion evolves with the passage of time, with the exception of traditional clothing, and expressed her joy at being able to attend the Sangai Festival, which returned after a two-year hiatus due to the COVID-19 epidemic.
